What is One Week One Idea?

One Week One Idea (written 1w1i for short) is a building program with one rule: every week, one dormant domain comes off the shelf, gets built into something usable, and ships by Friday. Then it gets written up honestly in the journal on this site, misses included.

It started in June 2026 with an admission: after decades on the internet I owned a shelf of good domain names doing nothing but generating renewal invoices. Instead of another year of someday-plans, each name now gets one week to justify itself. The domain is the prompt.

The cadence is fixed: pick Monday, build to usable, ship Friday, write it up. “Usable” is the bar, not “finished” — a visitor who lands on the thing gets real value on day one. Some weeks that means a content site, some weeks an app, some weeks a brand package that goes up for sale, and some weeks an honest write-up about what slipped and why. The streak is the product.

Three months in, the shipped list runs from a university survival guide to a cruise-cabin app to a parody marketplace built as a tech demo. Every domain in the project, A to Z with statuses, is listed at /sites. The ground rules live at the rules, and the weekly write-ups are the journal on the front page.

If you found this page trying to figure out whether “one week one idea” is a movement, a challenge, or a framework: it is simpler than that. It is one person, a pile of domains, and a Friday deadline that does not move.
